So obviously, all animals have four legs.<\/p>\n<p>Try out that reasoning on a kid, says mathematician Dan Finkel, to introduce them to the concept of mathematical play.<\/p>\n<p>Wrong, the kids should say. What about people? And fish?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKids love to prove adults wrong,\u201d Finkel, co-director of Math 4 Love, told KUOW\u2019s Bill Radke. And math is about arguing against seeming truths \u2013 what comedian Stephen Colbert refers to as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Truthiness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">truthiness<\/a>.\u201d These math games encourage youngsters to play with proofs.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a sense that if \u201cyou\u2019re not suffering, you\u2019re not learning,\u201d Finkel says.
